Gambling Addiction

Overview

Gambling addiction, also known as compulsive gambling or gambling disorder, is a mental health condition characterised by an uncontrollable urge to gamble despite the negative consequences it has on an individual’s life. This addiction can lead to severe financial problems, strained relationships, and emotional distress. At Nawa Wellness, our specialised retreat offers comprehensive and personalised treatment for individuals struggling with gambling addiction, providing them with the tools and support needed to overcome their compulsive behaviour, develop healthier coping strategies, and improve their overall well-being.

Signs and Symptoms of Gambling Addiction

The signs and symptoms of gambling addiction can vary from person to person, but common indicators include:

  • Preoccupation with gambling and constantly thinking about ways to obtain money to gamble
  • Increasing the amount of money gambled to achieve the desired excitement or thrill
  • Inability to control, cut back, or stop gambling despite repeated attempts
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to reduce or stop gambling
  • Gambling as a means to escape problems or relieve negative emotions
  • Chasing losses by trying to win back lost money through more gambling
  • Lying to family and friends to conceal the extent of gambling involvement
  • Jeopardising or losing significant relationships, jobs, or educational opportunities due to gambling

These symptoms can significantly impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being, making it crucial to seek professional help.

Challenges and Struggles of Gambling Addiction

Individuals with gambling addiction often face numerous challenges and struggles, such as:

  • Severe financial problems, including debt, bankruptcy, or loss of assets
  • Damaged relationships with family, friends, and loved ones
  • Impaired work performance or job loss due to preoccupation with gambling
  • Increased risk of developing mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety
